Euro coins share a common European side, but each issuing country designs its own national side. That’s the fastest way to tell where a euro coin comes from.

Identifying the country

Look at the side with the unique design (not the map of Europe). Germany uses the eagle and the Brandenburg Gate, France a sower and a tree, Italy famous artworks, and so on. Small states like Vatican, Monaco, and San Marino mint very low numbers, which makes their coins the most collectible.

Which euro coins are worth more?

Most circulating euro coins are worth face value. Value comes from:

• Commemorative 2 euro coins with limited mintage
• Coins from micro-states (Vatican, Monaco, San Marino)
• Error coins and early-year proof sets
