United Kingdom Coins

The UK has a strong pocket-change collecting culture, driven especially by commemorative 50p and £2 coins. Some designs have low mintages that make them worth well above face value.

Collectible 50p coins

The 2009 Kew Gardens 50p is the most famous scarce modern UK coin, with a mintage of just 210,000. Olympic and Beatrix Potter 50p designs are also widely collected.

Reading UK coins

Modern UK coins show the monarch on the obverse and the design/denomination on the reverse. Pre-decimal coins (before 1971) use shillings and pence and are identified differently.
